Your relationship is going amazingly well, but you’re wondering “will he marry me?” What are the signs he wants to marry you? How can you be certain he will marry you someday?
Fear not! I believe there are obvious signs a guy wants to marry you. These signs can be there as early as the first couple of months of dating.
Are you wife material for him?
Keep in mind within the first 90 days of dating, a man is evaluating you. He’s checking to see if you’re wife material – especially if he’s past the age of 30 and serious about settling down.
The more signs he fulfils on this list, the more likely he sees himself marrying you in the near future.
Sign #1 – He happily brings up living together & getting married
When a man sees a future with you, he isn’t going to beat around the bush. He’ll talk about it and talk about it often. He’ll bring up what kind of wedding he would like, how many kids he wants to have and what being married with you would be.
Men are NOT shy to talk about this. In fact, if he sees you as wife material, he’ll be excited and happy to talk about these details with you!
Sign #2 – He’ll casually ask what kind of “wedding/engagement ring” you like
If he is sending you pictures of wedding rings, it means he’s thinking seriously about proposing. He may even drag you to a few jewelers to look with you!
Most men don’t want to screw up a proposal. If he’s thinking about marrying you, the next step is planning for the proposal.
Sign #3 – He starts a sentence with “If we were married…”
Or if he starts a sentence with “If you were my wife…” or “If I were your husband…”
… it means he seriously considers you wife material. Men will not play these kind of games with a girl they are only lukewarm about.
Sign #4 – He tells you he wants to get married on the first date…
Now, if you know for certain he wants to get married and he is committed to you, there is a VERY high chance he sees himself marrying you.
Men who are ready for marriage will not waste time dating around. If he had the objective to meet someone to marry and he’s dating you – you’re his number one candidate!
He may need more time dating you to know “for sure” that you check all of the “wife” boxes.
Sign #5 – He’s happy to join his finances with you
Marriage is a huge commitment. It is also a financial commitment. If a man is happy to combine resources and in particular share a large chunk of his income with you – it means he is considering making you his future wife.
Sign #6 – He talks highly of you to his friends and family
Is he always boasting about how amazing you are to his family and friends? Does he act like a super proud partner? If he enjoys showing you off and being publically proud to be with you, it’s a sure sign he wants to marry you in the future.
Sign #7 – Your friends or family notice the way he looks at you
Have your friends or family mentioned the special way he looks at you? Outsiders are usually very good at picking up signs of love and devotion. If they’re telling you things like:
“I can tell he loves you a lot by the way he looks at you.”
“He looks at you like he’s very in love.”
These are signs that a man is completely devoted to you and sees you firmly in his future.
Sign #8 – He tells you you’d make a great wife and mother
If he’s giving you a compliment that you’d make a great wife and/or mother, it means he hopes you’d be HIS wife and mother to HIS kids.
Men can be very logical when it comes to building a family. Of course they want a woman who would make a great wife and mother. Take this as the ultimate compliment.
Sign #9 – When you bring up getting married, HIS eyes light up
It’s clear a man wants to marry you when he is clearly excited when you bring it up. He should not be neutral, avoidant or go quiet when the subject of weddings and proposals come up. He should be interested in your thoughts and share his own opinions as well.
Sign #10 – You can’t remember the last time you had a fight
Men want to marry women they get along with. If you’re constantly fighting or going through a rough patch, he’s going to put all “marriage” thoughts on hold.
This doesn’t mean he will never marry you – but it’s a good measure of how “soon” he will want to do it.
Generally men want things to be stable before making that decision. If your relationship is stable, happy and drama-free, and it has been that way for a long time, it’s a good sign he wants to marry you.
Sign #11 – He believes in marriage
A man needs to believe in the benefit of getting married before wanting to get married. There are men out there who don’t believe in marriage. There’s nothing wrong with this… provided you are in agreement.
Just because he doesn’t believe in marriage, doesn’t mean he isn’t committed to you. In the movie He’s Just Not That Into You, there’s a couple Beth and Neil who went through this dilemma.
Beth wanted to get married. She felt she had waited long enough to get married. She believed it was the “right” thing to do.
Neil on the other hand didn’t believe in marriage. However in every other way he was completely committed and devoted to Beth. Marriage was just not important to him in the same way it was to Beth.
It took Beth the entire movie to figure out that it wasn’t the “piece of paper” she wanted, it was him she wanted all along.
You have to decide for yourself what is important to you and what isn’t. Have this talk early and make sure marriage is something you BOTH want.
Sign #12 – He’s traditional
Men who have a more “traditional” mindset believe in marriage and having children. They also believe in doing these things at the right time. They believe in duty, honor, loyalty and keeping families together.
- If he has reached the “right” age to be married and have kids…
- If you’re carrying his child…
- If you’ve been dating for a LONG time…
- All of his friends are married…
- His family is pressuring him for marriage…
These may be reason enough for him to want to marry you.
Sign #13 – He believes marriage shouldn’t “change” anything
As much as he needs to believe in marriage, he should also believe that getting married shouldn’t change the relationship between you.
There are some men who believe marriage “changes” things. Perhaps they’re unaware of this consciously, but subconsciously they have a blueprint for marriage. This blueprint is different from being boyfriend/girlfriend.
This is when people can “change” after getting married. It’s because their blueprint – their expectations – has also changed.
For example, a man may suddenly get lazy and expect his wife to do all of the house chores. His blueprint for a husband would be husbands went to work and his wife looked after the home.
If he believes marriage changes things between you, this may cause him to resist marriage. Especially if he likes the current relationship you have.
Sign #14 – You’re his best friend
If he’d rather spend time with you than with his friends, if he confides in you about all kinds of personal things.. it’s a GREAT sign that he sees you as his best friend.
And men want to marry their best friend!
It’s only logical that the next step is to marry you.
Sign #15 – He doesn’t think you’re controlling
Men typically will not marry women they think is controlling or bossy. If he feels trapped and caged in, he’s very unlikely to marry you.
Marriage is a lifelong commitment. It’s an important decision. Men want to marry women they get along with and allow them a sense of freedom.
Men won’t want to get married if marriage to them feels like you’ll only further tighten your grip on them.
Sign #16 – He believes you’re highly compatible
Men are very logical. When it comes to forming a lifelong partnership, they know they must choose wisely. That means there’s less importance on things like the quality of your sex life or how “attractive” you are.
Instead men will look to see if you share their same values and beliefs. Do you believe in the same political view? Do you value the same personality traits? Do you have the same life goals?
Are your views of marriage the same?
If these things are not the same, a man is very unlikely to see you as his future wife.
Sign #17 – He doesn’t run away during the hard times
If he’s willing to stick by you even when times are tough, it’s a sign that he sees you in his long term future.
Men understand marriage is not always going to be easy. You will argue and have major conflicts. If he can’t stand by you during tough times and be willing to work on issues with you, he isn’t very committed to the relationship.
The strength and quality of a relationship is measured by your commitment during stressful times. He must be as committed as you to making it work.
Sign #18 – He makes a point to say he is committed to you and you only
You know when a man is committed when he tells you he’s careful not to lead other women on or make a point to say he is taken when talking to other women.
He’s also always talking ABOUT you to his female friends or work colleagues. This is a sign he is loyal to you and wants you to know it!
Sign #19 – Not him but friends and family say you could be “the one”
A guy may not always be vocal about believing you’re “the one” for him – although it’s very possible he’s thinking it! But if the people closest to him believe you could be “the one”, you should see this as a VERY good sign.
Especially if he is telling you about it.
He may feel are a bit “shy” about being romantic and forthcoming. However if he is telling you what other people think about you, it’s a sign he wants you to know how HE feels as well.
